Varun: Ajay, 2022 has only started and were witnessing the demise of too many great people. I still cant come to terms with the demise of Lataji!
Ajay: Yes, Varun. I understand your grief. All those who love Lata Mangeshkar and her blessed voice would be feeling that way now. But, Varun, this is a reminder for all of us in a way; a reminder of how fragile human life is.
Varun: I agree with you, Ajay. From the greatest of monks to the finest of musicians to the silliest of beings, everyones story ends at the same point – death!
Ajay: Yes; youre right. But have you ever thought about what makes the lives of these great people different from any commoner?
Varun: No Ajay, I never gave that a deep thought.
Ajay: Legacy. What they leave is what actually makes their lives eternal. In fact, it is something that everyone should abide by, especially us entrepreneurs.
Varun: Can you tell me more about it?
Ajay: Varun, we all have a life of mortality. We know nothing in our lives lasts forever; everything comes with an expiry date. Be it time, people, ideas, or events. There exists no struggle or success that lasts forever. Everything will come to an end. And the truth is, we humans are both blessed and cursed with this rule of expiration.
Varun: What does this have to do with entrepreneurship?
Ajay: Dear Varun, no enterprise or entrepreneur can sustain forever unless it creates memories. As an entrepreneur, we should focus on leaving behind a legacy, a story that stays throughout the generations. It should be our ticket out of this mortality. In fact, our enterprise is our child. While it stays as a reminder of our mortal life, it should also be raised as something that takes the burden of death off our shoulders.
Varun: Yes, I totally agree with you, Ajay! As Lataji sang, Naam gum jaaega, chehara ye badal jaaega / Meri awaaj hi pahachaan hai, gar yaad rahe!
