Fady: King Kong vs. Godzilla in real life! Two big tech behemoths at each others necks!
Ajay: Facebook wants user data and Apple says not anymore without the users permission – isnt that what you are referring to?
Fady: Yes. I think its only fair to ask customers for permission to share their data while they use an app.
Ajay: Yes. But according to surveys, 80% of the customers will say no to such requests. That hits at the core of Facebooks business model.
Fady: Right. I remember seeing newspaper ads by Facebook where small businesses talked about how they survived the pandemic with the help of targeted ads facilitated by Facebook. Facebooks main argument, as far as I understand, is that Apples move will affect such businesses.
Ajay: But I think, whether Apple introduced it or someone else did, this was something that was bound to happen sooner or later, given the kind of importance user privacy has gained lately. This is the beginning of a change. The world will only become more and more privacy-conscious from here on and its only ethical. Businesses should be ready to usher in that change. Because at the end of the day, customers sustain businesses and they deserve to win.
