A golden lesson in business - Being Ajay

A golden lesson in business

Sachin: I’m on cloud nine!

Ajay: Which Indian has not been since Saturday! Neeraj Chopra’s javelin landed in our
hearts.

Sachin: A 100-year long wait for a medal in athletics! It paid off not in bronze, not in silver, but in gold! Can you believe it?

Ajay: As a matter of fact, I can. A right investment choice when coupled with hard work and patience always pays off.

Sachin: But who would have thought javelin throw would be the event to finally bring us a medal in athletics!

Ajay: That’s why it’s a wonderful lesson on the importance of identifying a great growth opportunity to invest in, even when the entire market focus is elsewhere.

Sachin: How so?

Ajay: Before Chopra, which names used to come to your mind when you thought of
athletics?

Sachin: Milkha Singh, P T Usha, Anju Bobby George…

Ajay: Exactly. Our country has produced legends in running and jumping events. That
means there must have already existed a good infrastructure if Chopra wanted to train in one of those events. But he found his right fit elsewhere. Not an easy choice to make given that there have been no stars in javelin throw before that from India. But he had confidence and so did his family, friends, and mentors who supported him.

Sachin: I see your point. In business too, we always have this tendency to go where everyone else goes. But finding the right opportunity, investing in it, and being pioneers is what has made legends.

Ajay: Exactly. Now let’s toast for Neeraj! On behalf of a billion Indians!
