Ajay: Hello dear! So, what are your new year resolutions? Care to share?
Jahnavi: Resolutions? Cmon dad, who cares about those things anymore? They have become so obsolete.
Ajay: Since when?
Jahnavi: Since always. Its a useless exercise.
Ajay: Well, at the risk of sounding obsolete, I would say I still consider new year resolutions important.
Jahnavi: But why??
Ajay: Taking resolutions is all about setting targets. You are an ambitious young girl who wishes to live a meaningful life. For you, the New Year’s resolution is not a cliched ritual, but an opportunity to review the year that has passed, analyse where you stand now, set new goals based on that and pursue them with renewed vigor.
Jahnavi: But dad, who adheres to these resolutions?
Ajay: We all try. And if we fail, thats still okay. We then know where we failed, what our weakness is and what we should work on.
Jahnavi: I never thought of it that way.
Ajay: Just look at the sheer variety of human ambitions, my dear; Eat healthy, start a new hobby, travel more, make new friends, learn to say no, find a better job, take up a new course, write a book, spend more time with kids, adopt a puppy, make that entrepreneurial plunge, build a new product… If you ask me, these dreams and goals, the constant quest for a purpose in life and the sheer will to pursue them relentlessly make our existence beautiful. And a resolution is all about that.
Jahnavi: These words are the best New Year gift I could get. Thanks dad!
Ajay: Happy new year my girl! Wishing you joy, happiness and all the best things in life!
