WITH GREAT HEIGHTS COMES GREAT RESPONSIBILITY

Elias: Hi Ajay! Leaving early?

Ajay: Wrapped up quickly. Need to hit the bed early so that I can wake up tomorrow in time for the Australian Open.

Elias: Nice! The match has had such a messy opening though this time.

Ajay: Yeah, the Djokovic episode has been unfortunate. Celebrities and leaders wield such great influence. Instead of courting controversies, they should set examples.

Elias: But if he doesn’t want to get vaccinated, isn’t that his personal choice?

Ajay: It’s not that simple when it comes to greater common good. During a crisis like this, to opt out of vaccination is more of a selfish act than just a personal choice. His behaviour can have a ripple effect and not everybody is as privileged as Djokovic to get good healthcare if affected by the virus.

Elias: I hadn’t thought of it that way.

Ajay: By getting vaccinated we are not just doing a favour to ourselves, but also to those around us and to the healthcare system that has been crippling under this burden for the past two years.

Elias: But the Australian government could have handled it more carefully instead of turning it into one big circus.

Ajay: I agree. Too many back and forths and confusions and even politics, at the end of which the World’s No.1 had to return home. But again, he is No.1! With the kind of influence he wields over the masses, Djokovic’s actions can have an impact over the whole world’s fight against this pandemic. He could have become the greater person here by getting vaccinated or at least by showing Covid-appropriate behavior, which also he has failed to do at times.

Elias: That’s true.

Ajay: With great heights comes great responsibility. That’s a lesson for leaders like him and entrepreneurs like us.

Elias: Absolutely! So on whose side are you tomorrow?

Ajay: May the best man win!
